I translate 1500 to 3000 words per day on average. This could be slightly more or less depending on the content or the amount of repetitions in the text.

  My standard practice is to charge a fixed rate per word of the finished translation. Indeed, this is standard practice throughout the translation industry: it provides clarity and the wordcount can easily be verified.

  I offer discounts on the basic rates to my regular clients and for large volumes.

  You ask for a quotation without engagement and you enclose the document in question. Please do not forget to mention the following things:

  After receipt of the text or document, I will make you a quotation during which I shall bear 5 factors in mind: source and target language, size of the original text, format of the original document, delivery date and the text's complexity. I start with the translation once I have received your Translation Order, i.e. the approval of my quotation.

  It is preferable that you submit your text in digital form. Non-digital text requires more work in its translation.

Such programs as Microsoft Word Statistics (words counting) or CAT (as Trados) cannot be used with the text in non-digital form.

Evidently, it will cause a slight increase in the price indicated in my quotation.

So, I recommend to all my clients to submit the original text as much as possible in the digital format.

The most common formats are:

  In case there is some translation job, which has to be done within one day, or a number of words in the text to be translated exceeds 3000, then I name it an urgent translation. Quite often there is an overtime when compared with the normal office hours. Naturally, this comes at a price. The surcharge for urgent translations can range from 10 to 50%, depending in part on whether I have to work during the evening or into the night to complete the job on time.

  You can pay my invoice by bank transfer to my account in Belgium. PayPal and Moneybookers are also accepted for smaller amounts.

  CAT stands for Computer Aided (Asssisted) Translation. The CAT program is a translation aiding tool which provides support to a translator, by saving the translated sentences, expressions and words. So, a structured database is created from which the translator during the translation can retrieve similar matching segments. This saves time and money. Not only mine, but yours too!
